Synonyms
vācaḥ—of speech; vegam—the urge; manasaḥ—of the mind; krodha—of anger; vegam—the urge; jihvā—of the tongue; vegam—the urge; udara-upastha—of the belly and genitals; vegam—the urge; etān—these; vegān—urges; yaḥ—whoever; viṣaheta—can tolerate; dhīraḥ—sober person; sarvām—all; api—certainly; imām—this; pṛthivīm—world; saḥ—he; śiṣyāt—can make disciples.

Translation
A sober person who can tolerate the urge to speak, the mind’s demands, the actions of anger and the urges of the tongue, belly and genitals is qualified to make disciples all over the world.

Synonyms
atyāhāraḥ—overeating or overcollecting; prayāsaḥ—overendeavoring; ca—and; prajalpaḥ—idle talk; niyama-agrahaḥ—following scriptural rules for the sake of following rules, or rejecting them; jana-saṅgaḥ—association with worldly people; ca—and; laulyam—ardent longing or greed; ca—and; ṣaḍbhiḥ—by these six; bhaktiḥ—devotional service; vinaśyati—is spoiled.

Translation
The following six kinds of ātyāhāra spoil devotional service: (1) eating more than necessary or collecting more funds than required; (2) overendeavoring for mundane things that are very difficult to obtain; (3) talking unnecessarily about mundane subject matters; (4) practicing the scriptural rules only for the sake of following them and not for spiritual advancement, or rejecting the rules and working independently or whimsically; (5) associating with worldly-minded persons who are not interested in Kṛṣṇa consciousness; (6) being greedy for mundane achievements.

utsāhān—by enthusiasm; niścayād—by confidence; dhairyāt—by patience; tat-tat-karma—of those activities; pravartanāt—by executing; saṅga-tyāgāt—by giving up bad association; sato—of saintly persons; vṛtteḥ—by following the behavior; ṣaḍbhiḥ—by these six; bhaktiḥ—devotional service; prasidhyati—advances.

Translation
There are six principles favorable to the execution of pure devotional service: (1) being enthusiastic, (2) endeavoring with confidence, (3) being patient, (4) acting according to regulative principles (such as hearing, chanting and remembering Kṛṣṇa), (5) abandoning the association of nondevotees, and (6) following in the footsteps of the previous ācāryas. These six principles undoubtedly assure the complete success of pure devotional service.

Translation
Offering prasāda, accepting prasāda, revealing one’s mind in confidence, inquiring confidentially, accepting prasāda and offering prasāda are the six symptoms of love shared by one devotee and another.

anāsaktasya—of one who is unattached; viṣayān—to material objects; yathārham—as appropriate; upayuñjataḥ—engaging; nirbandhaḥ—bondage; kṛṣṇa-sambandhe—in relation to Kṛṣṇa; yuktavairāgyam—proper renunciation; ucyate—is called.

Translation
When one is unattached to material sense objects but engages in them as necessary in relation to Kṛṣṇa, such renunciation is called proper (yukta-vairāgyam).

Translation
Although the holy name, form, qualities and pastimes of Kṛṣṇa are like sugar candy to the diseased tongue afflicted by the bile of ignorance, if one takes them daily with respect, the holy name becomes increasingly sweet and tasty for that person.

Translation
Devotion, realization of the Supreme Lord, and detachment from everything else — these are the signs of increasing devotion to Kṛṣṇa.

Translation
By the gradual process of chanting the holy name and remembering the form, qualities and pastimes of Kṛṣṇa, the tongue and mind become sweetened. By Kṛṣṇa's mercy, devotion in the mood of service increases more and more.

Translation
One should mentally honor any person who chants the holy name “Kṛṣṇa,” and if that person has received initiation and is engaged in chanting the holy name with obeisances and prayers, one should offer him all respect.

niṣkiñcanasya—of one who has nothing material; bhagavad-bhajana-unmukhasya—eager to serve the Lord; pārārthya-kāmaḥ—desiring the welfare of others; saḥ—he; ca—and; śāntaḥ—peaceful; saḥ—he; ca—and; mahān—great soul; tṛṇāt api—than grass; sunīcena—lower; taroḥ api—than a tree; sahiṣṇunā—more tolerant; amāninā—without false prestige; mānadena—giving honor to others; kīrtanīyaḥ—to be glorified; sadā—always; hariḥ—Lord Hari.

Translation
One who is materially destitute, eager to serve the Supreme Lord, desiring the welfare of others, peaceful and great-souled, thinking himself lower than grass, more tolerant than a tree, without false prestige, and ready to give all respect to others, should always chant the holy name of the Lord.
